Your Neuromuscular System

Your Neuromuscular system is comprised of the Central Nervous system (brain and spinal cord), your peripheral nervous system (all nerves branching to organs and extremities (arms & legs). From there, you have 2 other branches called the sympathetic and para-sympathetic nerves. It is also comprised of the muscles, tendons of muscles, ligaments & a connective tissue called fascia.

We have approximately 45 miles of nerve tissue in our bodies, and it can take approximately little over 3 months for nerve tissue to heal! This is longer than any other type of tissue in the body! Imagine 45 miles of nerves trying to heal, of course it would take a long time from trauma and injuries. Us humans, have bad habits we often inflict on our bodies. Some of these bad habits we often are not aware of, and some we are well-aware of, yet we are creatures of habit. One of the ones we are aware of is the consumption of coffee, but coffee is a neuromuscular stimulant! It causes stress, and it causes our nervous system to act like a jack hammer on the muscles and connective tissues. This takes away the calcium we need for our nervous system, muscles, connective tissues and of course bones and many other structures and functions in our bodies.

This causes MORE STRESS in the body, not allowing it time and opportunity to heal itself in a timely manner! It actually slows down the healing process. Think of your computer, when it has too many programs running at the same time. It slows down, even to the point of freezing, escpecially if it has bugs and viruses as well as spyware running down the memory.

Our muscles and connective tissues have memory too! They can't afford to have injuries & stress inhibiting their efficient function. This stress doesn't stay in the area where it developed, it actually spreads to other parts of the body through trigger points and referred pain patterns, that cause muscle imbalances in other parts of the body.

One thing we may not be aware of is our postural holding patterns. Yea, we might know that we slouch, but there is much more involved in posture than most people realize. There are many unconscious postural holding patterns our bodies take on while fighting gravity and trauma! We can have bad biomechanics in walking and other activities that we assume are healthy for us, but can actually cause us more injuries if we don't correct the bad habits we apply in these activities, even as simple as walking!

Bodywork Bootcamp is a scientific and therapeutic long term rehab program, not just for individuals who have chronic pain or dysfunction, or some other debilitating issues, but those who want to start as early as 10 years old, in order to PREVENT some of the common issues that develop in our bodies starting at such a young age! Adults don't often realize that young children can be inflicted with stress and dysfunctions that make it harder for the child or adolesence to concentrate in school! many issues can be so subtle we assume the problem will correct itself.


Bodywork Bootcamp uses many methods to help create better body awareness, heal traumatized, injured or stressed tissues, and to reprogram the connections between the Central Nervous System and the Musculoskeletal System. We use methods like Neuromuscular Therapy, a very specific type of methodical massage targeted at specific muscle fibers, tendons & ligaments; Myofascial Therapy, releasing tension in the connective tissues around the muscles and organs; Active Isolated Stretching which uses a specific approach to lengthening and realigning muscles for greater flexibility; We might use acupressure and reflexology which help to balance organ function, and we might even use Juggling Therapy! Juggling Therapy helps with decreased anxiety, and motor-skill development, as well as raises self-esteem, self-confidence and self-motivation. It has been studied to even aid in reading & writing skills along with creativity!  Overall, it helps to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain! Essentially, when you learn to juggle, you start to use more of your brain, than any other type of activity! 

We will also give you nutritional information, to aid in feeding the blood flow nutrients to heal stressed and injuried cells and tissues.

Bodywork Bootcamp can and usually does include bodywork from the "Systems Massages" like Respiratory & Core/Digestive, as well as Carpal Tunnel and TMJ Therapies.

But the reason why Bodywork Bootcamp works, is because we try to look at Neurological and physiological factors like:

And we try to follow a very scientific order of rehabilitation:

    • 1. Eliminate spasms and hypercontraction in the tissues (Manual therapy such a neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, structural bodywork)
    • 2. Restore proper biomechanics (Soft-tissue re-patterning, structural bodywork, Cranio-Sacral Therapy)
    • 3. Restore flexibility to the tissues (Active Isolated Stretching)
    • 4. Rebuild the strength of the injured tissues (Active Isolated Strengthening)
    • 5. Build endurance (Aerobic exercise, Juggling Therapy)

***If this order is not followed specifically, the client experiences set-backs or re-injury to the tissues.***
